In New York? - Volunteer
Many of the Nigerian plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Shell that goes to trial May 27th will be coming to stay in New York from mid-May until the end of the trial, probably at the end of June. We are seeking volunteers to help support these plaintiffs. Can you help?
We are looking for volunteers who will be in or near the New York City area from late May until the end of June and are willing to donate at least a day of their time to help coordinate logistics for our Nigerian plaintiffs, who will be staying in the city for the duration of the trial. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet with the plaintiffs and learn about their experiences in Nigeria.
If you can volunteer, please email Debbie Gordon.
On November 10, 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa, an acclaimed writer and leader of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), was hanged along with eight other Ogoni leaders, after a trial before a military tribunal that was condemned around the world as a sham. Ken Saro-Wiwa's last words were: "Lord take my soul but the struggle continues."
