Spread the Word
One of the most important things you can do to support the lawsuit against Shell is simply to spread the word. The original lawsuit against Shell was filed in 1996. Shell has made numerous attempts to have these cases thrown out of court, which the plaintiffs have defeated, and after more than a dozen years, Shell will finally stand trial in federal court in New York on May 27th, 2009.
If the plaintiffs prevail, it will mark the first time a jury has ruled for plaintiffs in an Alien Tort Statute case against a multinational corporation.

On November 10, 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa, an acclaimed writer and leader of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), was hanged along with eight other Ogoni leaders, after a trial before a military tribunal that was condemned around the world as a sham. Ken Saro-Wiwa's last words were: "Lord take my soul but the struggle continues."
